Cervical cancer and prevention
Prof Harald Zur-Hausen was awarded by Nobel Prize for identifying the etiology of cervical cancer and the role of HPV in this process.
The negative predictive value for developing CIN III in case of a negative HPV result is nearly 100 %, to compare with the 70 % with a negative PAP smear.
The HPV DNA test will show the most dangerous types of viruses such as: 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58, and the potential oncogenic HPV types: 35, 39, 51, 56, 59, 66 és 68.
In case of cervical cancer the malformations before the onset of the malignancy can be detected by verifying the preneoplastic lesions. It is long time (years) for an early HPV caused malformation to develop cancer, therefore with routine check-ups the early signs can be detected. Not only the presence of the HPV DNA, but molecular changes at preneoplastic lesions (biomarker CYNtec Plus) can be detected. With an excision of total malformation the disease can be treated 100% accuracy.
The negative result of HPV is more reliable method to judge the probability of CIN3 to develop then PAP smear test.
To decrease of risk of cervical cancer:
- Don’t smoke!
- Inject HPV vaccine, Gardasil-9 (most effective in young age, at 11-26 years old.
- Don’t start sexual life under the age of 18.
- Use condom, don’t change partners frequently.
